The Bible had 6 Semite men named Ishmael, all stated in the Old Testament.
Ishmaelites were mentioned in a few passages, most notably when Jacob's son, Joseph, was sold into slavery by his brothers.
Genesis 37:25-28 and Genesis 39:1 both state the slave traders were from Midian while the 2nd passage
names the Egyptian that accepted the purchase of Joseph to be "Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh's officials".
Judges 8:24 stated that "It was the custom of the Ishmaelites to wear gold earrings".
The names of 2 Ishmaelites showed up in 1 Chronicles.
1 Chronicles 2:17 - Abigail was the mother of Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite.
1 Chronicles 27:30 - Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys.
Azel (a Benjamite) > Ishmael
1 Chronicles 8:38 -
Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. All these were the sons of Azel.
1 Chronicles 9:44 -
Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
Ishmael > Zebadiah (from the tribe of Judah)
2 Chronicles 19:11 -
"Amariah the chief priest will be over you in any matter concerning the LORD, and Zebadiah son of Ishmael, the leader of the tribe of Judah, will be
over you in any matter concerning the king, and the Levites will serve as officials before you. Act with courage, and may the LORD be with those who do well."
Jehohanan > Ishmael
2 Chronicles 23:1 -
In the seventh year Jehoiada showed his strength. He made a covenant with the commanders of units of a hundred: Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zicri.
This may be the same Jehohanan mentioned in 2 Chronicles 17:15.
Ishmael who assassinated Gedaliah, the Babylonian vassal king in Mizpah
Elishama (apparently, a son of David from either Hebron or Jerusalem since he was stated as being "of royal blood") > Nethaniah > Ishmael
2 Kings 25:23-25: (greater detail in Jeremiah 40-41)
23. When all the army officers and their men heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah as governor, they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah--Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan son of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, Jaazaniah the son of the Maacathite, and their men.
24. Gedaliah took an oath to reassure them and their men. "Do not be afraid of the Babylonian officials," he said. "Settle down in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well with you."
25. In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was of royal blood, came with ten men and assassinated Gedaliah and also the men of Judah and the Babylonians who were with him at Mizpah.
Pashhur ... Ishmael (a descendant of Pashhur who returned from exile in Babylonia)
Ezra 10:22 - From the descendants of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad and Elasah.
There are a few references to Pashhur with the most likely matches coming from Nehemiah chapters 7 & 10 since this would be the same time frame.
